Coeur d'Alene Fire Department

As with all fire departments in the state of Idaho, the Coeur d'Alene Fire Department (Cd'A FD) is working hard to maintain the level of service the residents of Coeur d'Alene have come to expect.  Working with limited personnel, the Cd'A FD responds to over 6,000 fire and emergency medical calls per year.  However, responding to emergencies is only a portion of the services they provide.
The department has 46 paid employees, including a fire chief, a deputy chief, an EMS coordinator, a fire prevention inspector, an administrative secretary, a prevention secretary, and a public education specialist.  Line staff includes three captains, six lieutenants, nine engineers, and twentyone firefighters.  The department also has up to 18 reserve firefighters.
There are a minimum of twelve personnel on duty 24 hours a day,  five at Station #1, 320 Foster Ave., four at Station #2, 3850 Ramsey Rd., and three at Station 3, 1500 15th St.  All line personnel are EMT-D certified, many are EMT-Advanced, , and several are paramedics, and others will be soon. Many of the Reserves are certified to First Responder level.  All personnel are trained to a minimum of awareness and some to operations level in hazardous materials, and most are state certified fire inspectors.
The Cd'A FD currently works out of three fire stations. Housed in the three stations are an E-One 100 foot quint, an E-One pumper, two 1986 Mack pumpers, three ambulances, a 1995 Ford Rescue Squad, and numerous other pieces of apparatus.   Units carry heavy extrication equipment as well as other specialized rescue equipment,

and all pieces of front line apparatus are equipped as Quick Response Units.  The Department also has two new staff/command vehicles.  The Fire Prevention Bureau, under the direct supervision of the deputy chief, is responsible for all fire inspections, planning, fire investigation and public education.  The public education division works directly with schools, churches, day-care facilities, and retirement homes in dealing with fire safety and education.
The Cd'A FD has developed an extremely cooperative and professional relationship with all these facilities.
The Cd'A FD has a proud past coupled with an extremely bright future.  It will continue to provide the best service possible to those whom we are indebted to, our citizens.

Safe Place in Coeur d'Alene    The Coeur d'Alene Fire Department participates in Project Safe Place.  Safe Place is a national prevention and outreach program available in over 300 communities to assist children who are at risk, homeless or in crisis.  It offers help and supportive resources through a network of sites sustained by youth serving agencies, businesses and volunteers.
